Tour de France 2015: Chris Froome makes huge statement with stage win

• Froome bursts clear to extend general classification lead to 2min 52sec
• Richie Porte finishes second at La Pierre Saint-Martin 59sec behind Froome

Team Sky’s Chris Froome blew the peloton apart to take a significant stride towards a second Tour de France victory with a breathtaking win in stage 10 as the race entered the Pyrenees.

In the first major test for the climbers Froome, the 2013 Tour winner, was peerless in the closing ascent to La Pierre Saint-Martin, crossing the line 59 seconds ahead of his team-mate Richie Porte in second place and more than a minute ahead of Nairo Quintana in third to extend his lead at the top of the general classification to 2min 52sec.
