Under general guidance of the Fuel Country Manager, the Fuel Accountant will be responsible for all fuel accounting processes and procedures in support of fuel operations and our customer’s requirements


Role objective:

§ Oversee the day-to-day accounting of fuel operations for all fuel sites and refuelling operations.

§ Implement and maintain all operations and customer’s policies and procedures with regards to fuel accounting.

§ Conduct management checks and audits as required.

Expected output:

§ Ensure proper fuel accounting is being carried out.

§ Ullage and Inventory Management/reconciliation between Book inventory and physical stock on hand

§ Continually track fuel inventory levels and usage of all products and report any specific concerns to Country Manager.

§ Meter Reconciliation and Daily Close out with full audit trail and transaction reporting

§ Assist with periodic stock checks as necessary.

§ Planning and Scheduling of fuel movement to customers

§ To oversee and ensure that all paperwork is properly filled out and all fuel products are accounted for correctly.

§ Ensure all fuels movements are properly accounted for.

§ Liaise with Country Manager, Operations Manager and Site Managers to ensure efficient completion of dispatch and receipt documentation for fuels transferred between locations or sold to customers.

§ Create all inventory related reports and retain the supporting documentation related to each report in accordance with current SOPs and accounting regulations.

§ Ensure accurate and updated inventory records and registers are maintained.

§ Identify and investigate discrepancies in accounting.

§ Implement and maintain control measures to ensure that all product types and their movements are accounted for accurately.

§ Inspection of all fuel receipt, storage and issue operations to ensure that all procedures in place are being followed to ensure proper accounting of fuel.

§ Ensure that operations staff are following the correct procedures while performing their tasks in order to maintain proper fuels accountability.

§ To apply Quality Management System to all accounting processes.

§ Any other fuel accounting and general accounting related activities as directed by the Country Manager.

§ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Management and/or Diploma in Accounting, Finance and Business Management.

Work experience:

§ Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable relevant Finance & Accounting experience.

Geographical experience:

§ Minimum of 4 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Somalia is an advantage.


§ Fluency in English is essential.

Key competencies:

§ To have formal training in accounting, finance and business management.

§ To have experience of fuel accounting.

§ Knowledge & usage of ASTM Tables Density Conversion, Volume Conversions, Sediments & Water, Sampling, Tank Gauging

§ Calculation of Static Petroleum Quantities (Upright Cylindrical Tanks, Rectangular tanks)

§ Volumetric and Mass/weight Calculations of Petroleum products, crude oil when contained in tanks

§ Ability to interact with all levels of the organization

§ Preference will be given to candidates with Automated Fuel Management Systems experience, and interpretation of Tele Gauging / Radar Gauging, (SCADA).
