DRC has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Somalia operations focuses mainly on people who are affected by displacement, including refugees, internally displaced, and migrant.
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC which implements mine action and armed violence reduction (AVR) programmes. DDG’s mandate is ‘to create a safe environment free from armed violence and the remnants of conflict’, and DDG does this via a programmatic focus on four key sectors: Security Systems Reform, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) management, Mine Action and Conflict Management.
Overall Purpose of the role:
The Advocacy and Communication Specialist will facilitate the development and implementation of the Durable Solutions Program Consortium communication and advocacy strategy and visibility plans.
The DSP Consortium Advocacy & Communication Specialist is a staff member of the Programme Management Unit (PMU) and works for Consortium Members (including WYG and ReDSS)
· The DSP Advocacy and Communication Specialist Program works in close collaboration with the DSP Consortium partners and senior Program staff of each of the implementing agencies. Specific responsibilities include:
· Work with the Consortium members to execute communication and visibility plans for the different projects and follow up of the plans to ensure link with the programs;
· Facilitate the development and collection of success stories, case studies, lessons learnt from the field in collaboration with the Consortium Members
· Develop and disseminate DSP communication products e.g. fliers, brochures, newsletters;
· Organize dissemination events related to DSP content and learning;
· Develop and distribute digital materials such as stories, videos, pictures/photos from the Field.
· Facilitate field visits for media and journalists in collaboration with the Consortium Members
· Facilitate media outreach and public information sharing together with the Consortium Member Communication teams
· Lead advocacy activities and trainings for the consortium members
· Represent the consortium in advocacy meetings and events outside the consortium
· Undertake other duties as may be required by the consortium that relate to the specified role or enhance implementation and adoption of best practices
· Lead the role of collecting, repackaging studies as policy briefs as well as in disseminating and archiving of studies on behalf of the DSP Consortium.

Experience, education and technical competencies
· University degree in relevant field (Advocacy, Public Policy, Communication and Media Relations.
· Minimum of 5 years of work experience in advocacy, communication and media relations.
· Previous experience working in the humanitarian and development sector
· Experience in writing of journalistic products – articles, case stories, press releases
· Experience with layout and graphic design
· Experience coordinating digital content production for website and social media
· Photography and video skills are highly required
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Proactive self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
· Clear understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS);
· Experience with capacity building of staff, and in convening and facilitating trainings and workshops
