Background

AVSI Foundation is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in Italy in 1972.

AVSI is involved in more than 107 cooperation projects in 30 developing countries worldwide in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Asia. AVSI’s main activity areas are education and social development, urban upgrading, healthcare, labour, agriculture, food security and water, energy and environment, humanitarian emergency and migrants and refugees, reaching more than 2,6 million direct beneficiaries.

From November 2020 AVSI will be implementing a project aiming to improve food production capacity, sanitation, and protection services for displaced persons and groups at risk in the rural suburbs of Kismayo, Lower Juba, Somalia. This a multisectoral emergency intervention in response to the humanitarian crisis in Somalia

We are seeking to fill the following positions for a period of eleven months starting November 2020

I. P1 Teachers – 5 position

II. Quality Assurance Officer – 1 position

1. Primary school teachers

Aim of the position:

The teachers will implement the Somali primary schools’ curriculum in line with the provided guidelines on effective teaching, facilitating child centred learning methods, measuring and evaluating learner’s progress and ensuring learners’ success and promote an exemplary educational program which fosters achievement for all learners in the school.

The teachers will be under the guidance and supervision of the school administration( Head Teacher, Deputy head teacher, Senior teacher) , quality assurance officer and the field education officers designated in the area.
Main duties and responsibilities:

· Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities in a professional manner for primary schools.

· Create positive educational climate for learners to learn and remain abreast of current issues in education and subject content

· Meet course and school-wide student performance goals and utilize district curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.

· Participate in ongoing training sessions for personal professional development and supporting the school-based teacher development

· Use Child – friendly approaches like creating lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.

· Conduct effective measurement and evaluation of learning outcomes such as marking and grading learners’ performance and keeping the learners’ progress records

· Participate in the school management and administrative duties as will be delegated by the authorities

· Utilize various curriculum resources and technologies to enhance learning and integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.

Minimum Qualifications for applicants:

· Must be holders of Primary Teacher Education Certificate (P1) or equivalent from a recognized institution (a minimum of 2-year training or more on primary education or ECDE from a recognized institution

· Be a Somali citizen. Preference will be given to individuals who reside in the school district and/or are willing to relocate to Dhobley area.

· Must have original Professional and Academic Certificates. All the documents will be verified strictly during the interview.

· Must not be older than 60 years

· Must have no criminal record. The applicant should have a valid certificate of good conduct issued by a recognized law enforcement agency in Juba land state of Somalia.

· Must have obtained a minimum of grade C (60-65) in a recognized post-secondary institution;

2. Quality Assurance Officer

Aim of the position:

Set and supervise education quality Assurance standards for the AVSI teachers in Somalia and provide leadership to the 5 teachers as a model teacher and as AVSI focal person for educator in Somalia Education Cluster Activities in the area collaboration with District Education Officer, Regional Educational officer and Director General for Education in Jubaland.

Guide development, coordinate and oversee education support, Teachers’ schemes of work and ALL professional documents that ensure that improvement of quality of education objectives are achieved in Dhobley area in Lower Jubba region.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

· The supervision 5 primary school teachers contracted by AVSI to teach in primary schools in Somalia and support in the distribution and supervise the use of any TLs materials that will be allocated to the teachers and learners

· Contribute in the identification of new education projects in Somalia that are in line with Somalia Education Cluster in the Lower Jubba Region (Dhobley area)

· Provide technical, management support and monitoring and evaluation to the Education activities in Somalia supported by of AVSI Foundation

· Participate in developing quarterly reports and other assessments reports based on routine monitoring and evaluation of the projects cycle (planning, execution, measuring, evaluation and learning)

· Effectively communicate during the bi- weekly M&E meetings and discuss education program objectives, implementation status, progress towards indicators for the running projects and other related duties as will be delegated by the Program manager both in writing and in oral presentations and clearly articulate AVSI’s education strategy for Somalia and rationale for Interventions.

Minimum Qualifications for applicants:

· Must be holders of Bachelor of Education Degree from a recognized university

· Must be trained and certified in Teacher management in Kenya or Somalia

· Must have original Professional and Academic Certificates. This will be verified strictly during the interview.

· Must not be older than 60 years

· Must have no criminal record. The applicant should have a valid certificate of good conduct issued by a recognized law enforcement agency in Jubaland state of Somalia.
